Structural Analysis of the Frame for Quicksilver WSR

Elite Consulting Ltd has joined the Quicksilver World Water Speed Record Challenge as a Technical Associate. Elite Consulting will be the Official Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Specialist and Structural Consultant to the Quicksilver team. As such we have been analysing the main frame of the craft. Some of the techniques used and the results are shown below.

Pro/Engineer model and assembly accuracy has to be correct to allow for small weld features in a large assembly model
Pro/Mechanica end and perimeter weld functionality used to join frame members, which were mid-plane shells
Beams and surfaces used for undefined areas in the design. Bolt attachments modelled using Pro/Mechanica beam fastener (spot weld) functionality.
