Motion Analysis and Simulation using Pro/MECHANICA Motion

Kinematic and Dynamic Motion Analysis

We have done a variety of Rigid-Body Dynamics projects and some semi-rigid ones. In the past we used Mechanica Motion, but these days we tend to use its successor, Pro/Engineer MDO.

Example Project

A suspension and subframe assembly was analysed using the Pro/Mechanica Motion rigid body dynamics package. This included a compliance analysis to find the effect of the rubber bushes.

Initial analysis focussed on kinematics analysis using 'rigid' joints, to optimise the hard points (link pivot positions) for bump steer, camber change etc. within the available space envelope. 

Then rubber bush properties (initially linear, then non-linear) were introduced for the suspension and subframe bushes. These were then tuned to give the appropriate toe-steer and camber change responses under braking accelerating and cornering forces.

Pro/MECHANICA® Motion

The Motion Simulation module allows us to create, evaluate, and optimise the motion of an assembly  to meet our Client's engineering performance requirements. We are able to evaluate and optimise moving assemblies by modelling driven kinematic and force-based dynamic simulations in full 3D. Forces and reactions determined from such simulations can be transferred to Pro/MECHANICA® Structure models.
