LATEST SOFTWARE RELEASES REVIEWED AT NEW MECHANICA® USER GROUP
Following the recent release of MECHANICA® Wildfire™ 4.0 by PTC, the newly reformed UK MECHANICA User Group held its first meeting in July at the Birmingham City University Technology Innovation Centre. The group supports all users of Pro/MECHANICA® engineering software which provides finite element analysis (FEA) tools for structural and thermal analysis. To further support the group there is a new website at www.promechuser.org.uk. The user group is free to join and meetings are also free to attend. Attendees at the meeting in Birmingham heard presentations from Andy Deighton of PTC, creators of MECHANICA, Ray Ellender of Elite Consulting and Rod Giles of Polaris Industries, offering the latest information on using Wildfire 4.0. Andy Deighton explained the innovations in Wildfire 4.0 Mechanica including non-linear hyper-elastic materials, contact with infinite friction, thermal contact resistance, assembly connectivity management and new error logging and diagnostics. Some of these features were expanded upon in presentations by Rod Giles and Ray Ellender.
Presentations also included a paper from the NAFEMS Conference – Robust Design Using MECHANICA and CETol – delivered by Ray Ellender and Rod Giles. MECHANICA users who attended the meeting also heard a recap of what was in the Wildfire 3.0 version, including inertia relief and weighted links and hints and tips from Ray Ellender on how to get the best results out of the software. Andy Deighton of PTC also gave a taste of what is planned for Pro/MECHANICA Wildfire 5.0 and beyond. Delegates were all sworn to secrecy so anyone interested will have to come to the next meeting to find out more. Ray Ellender, Managing Director of organiser and event sponsor Elite Consulting, said: “After having held no meetings for six years we decided to reform the UK MECHANICA User Group because there have been several new developments in the software. “We felt that the time was right to resurrect the User Group because with Wildfire version 4.0 there is some exciting new functionality to talk about, including non-linear elastic materials, contact with friction, thermal contact resistance and more. “This was an ideal opportunity to get users together in one place and assist them in getting the most from the new software. And despite the six year lay off, over 60 per cent of users registering an interest in the event turned up on the day.” PresentationsTo download copies of the presentations that were made at the meeting. please click here Pro/Mechanica
